Records consist mostly of routine administrative documents from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Department of Exercise and Sport Science and its predecessors. Annual reports, 1938-1992, often include related letters and memoranda, items related to department awards and achievements, and individual faculty members' reports. Topics include attempts to update its athletic facilities for a growing female population. Faculty meeting minutes, 1980-2000, also contain related memoranda. The records also include manuals and procedures, 1992-2001, related to the graduate program and a 1992 Ph.D. program proposal. Of particular interest are discussions of curriculum, especially the graduate program, in the annual reports and faculty minutes and discussion in the annual reports of the department's involvement in military training during World War II.
